Destrier Warhorse

This is a custom Backpiece of a Destrier Warhorse, these were the strongest and finest horses chosen to carry knights out into battle in the medieval times. The Percheron, originally bred for this intent, was the breed of choice due to their stamina and strength, which made them also amongst the most valuable horses at the time.
The composition is carefully drawn to accentuate the traits of this majestic horse breed, by depicting a strong stance and a fierce facial feature which unmistakably characterizes these horses; even under the pressure of a battlefield they knew how to maintain focus and follow the orders of their rider. The flames added symbolize the chaos of the situations they were known to be in, while the skulls in the bottom represent the victims of this fearless machine of war.
This Backpiece was lined in one session, then one month later shaded in two consecutive days. The client showed the same resilience and determination as the character she chose for such an important piece on her body.
