Dragon Frontpiece

With this dragon frontpiece we had the objective of representing the symbolism behind this mighty creature which appears in all older civilizations throughout the world. A symbol of power and strength, and also known to represent wisdom and protection in various cultures. For this reason the dragon is grasping a flaming torch in its claws, this white flame representing “light”, or knowledge, while protecting it with its fierce black fire, representing “darkness”. A humble reminder that in life, the balance of good and evil, dark and light are always present and an undeniable constant. It was important for the composition to portray flow and movement, while creating a strong contrast for a good readability also from a larger distance. The black flames were used to blast over an older piece on the clients neck, completely embracing the fact it doesn’t fully cover the old tattoo, but just destroys it with this powerful almost tribal form of flames.
