Blackwork Japanese Dragon on the Back

This Japanese-inspired dragon tattoo was done for a client who wanted this piece in the middle of her back. She wanted all the important elements of the composition to be on the upper back. For that reason, we agreed to place the head high up and wrap the neck and legs around that area.

Once the composition and positioning were clear, we placed the scales in a very solid black, playing with the size as they moved away from the back to improve legibility. To achieve this, we used a sumi to separate the planes.
